Our products are made from water hyacinth fiber, as well as other naturally occurring fibers and materials derived from waste such as sawdust and wood shavings.
Water hyacinth is an invasive free-floating perennial aquatic plant that grows naturally and unfettered in fresh-water bodies in many countries. This proliferation threatens the livelihood of thousands of villagers by hindering fishing and water transport, clogging rivers and canals to cause flooding, reducing biodiversity by obstructing the survival of other species of flora and fauna, and creating a micro-habitat for disease-spreading organisms.
At EcoWorldCraft we employ local villagers who harvest and process the water hyacinth fiber into sheets of paper, which we use to make our products. Our vision is to sustain local economies in India by providing a livelihood to the villagers impacted by this invasive species, cleaning up fresh-water resources, enabling biodiversity to flourish, and resurrecting traditional water-based occupations.
